Injury Treatment & Preventative Care

When you arrive at Prevail Rehab & Fitness you will have an opportunity to sit and speak with Dr. Leist, DC, or Dr. Ryan Meyers, DPT, where you will thoroughly review and discuss your health history and any other relevant information.

Following the consultation, Dr. Leist or Dr. Meyers will perform a series of screens and assessments to better determine the cause of your pain and dysfunction and how he can help you.  This process will consist of thorough orthopedic, neurological, radiological (if necessary), movement analysis, and soft tissue assessments.  In addition, we analyze gait, range of motion, and assess your postural presentation.  If at any time during your assessment or treatment other tests such as MRI, CT, blood work, or consultation with another specialist are needed, we will provide a referral to ensure you get the best care. After gathering all pertinent information, appropriate treatment is provided.

Because of the active nature of the examination and treatment, we ask that you please wear or bring loose fitting clothing or athletic clothing, if possible.

Prevail Rehab & Fitness commonly and effectively treats the following conditions:

ART – Active Release Technique®

When muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves – collectively called soft tissues – are overused it causes your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. When scar tissue builds, it can shorten and weaken muscles, tighten tendons which can lead to tendonitis, and entraps nerves. These results can reduce range of motion, weaken the area and cause pain.

ART is a patented, advanced and non-invasive soft tissue system that treats a wide range of soft tissue injuries, corrects injury-based mobility problems, and allows you to move again without pain. This is accomplished by a trained ART provider using his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific, continuous movements. These treatment protocols – comprised of over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART and allow trained providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting you.

Shoulder pain, knee problems, back pain, hip pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, tennis elbow, and carpal tunnel syndrome are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. Rocktape® Therapeutic Applications

Rocktape Therapeutic Application is a gentle yet effective approach to therapy. It involves taping over and around muscles, which provides support and can prevent over contracting your muscles. The method is suitable for patients of all ages with all conditions, is extremely versatile and has been known to re-educate the neuromuscular system, increase lymphatic flow, reduce pain and enhance performance. In addition, the tape is water-resistant and can be worn for several days, allowing you to receive around the clock therapeutic benefits!

Functional Trigger Point Dry Needling

Dry needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into a muscle and its surrounding fascia. No injectable solution is used and the needle is very thin.

Functional dry needling (FDN) is not acupuncture. We use movement assessment and palpation to find restrictions in range of motion and faulty movement patterns to determine where we insert the needle.

It is not common to feel the needle penetrate the skin, but once it has advanced into the muscle, the discomfort can vary. A healthy muscle typically feels very little discomfort upon insertion of the needle. However, if the muscle has shortened or has active trigger points within it, you may feel a sensation much like a muscle cramp, often referred to as a "twitch response". FDN’s function is to elicit a response that almost instantaneously opens up your range of motion and provides a reduction in pain levels.

Exercise – Corrective and Performance Enhancement

Movement is inherently good for you as it helps organize the body. Prevail Rehab & Fitness promotes exercise – both corrective and performance-enhancing – to best facilitate the healing process, optimize overall health, and maximize performance.

For those overcoming injury and on their way towards recovery, we feel there is no better way to foster patient participation and self-treatment than through exercise. Specific exercises are demonstrated to promote productive adaptation and better function.

For those seeking sport-specific or performance training, Prevail Rehab & Fitness is equipped and ready to help you reach your goals!

Regular cadence of visits and we provide at-home exercise for in between rehab sessions.

Graston Technique® (IASTM)

Soft tissue injuries can be debilitating and challenging to overcome without help. Using the Graston Technique, we can treat scar tissue and fascial restrictions during rehab to help improve range of motion, reduce inflammation, eradicate pain and help you get back to functioning at a normal level again.

Functional Range Release™

Often times, when we experience pain, we assume it’s a muscular issue. However, the central nervous system controls our muscles and the length to which they will stretch. When the central nervous system decides the muscle as hit its threshold, it creates a contraction in the muscle limiting flexibility and movement. This is the body’s way of preventing further injury. Functional Range Release™ is a  manual myofascial release technique that addresses the facia and connective tissue around the muscle that is contracting.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Spinal manipulation can be an effective treatment to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support.

TPI Golf Screening & Assessment

For the golf lovers, Prevail Rehab & Fitness is TPI Certified. TPI is the gold standard for golf performance and is transforming how coaches and players approach their golf swing through and in-depth understanding of the Body-Swing Connection™. Having successfully gone through the TPI Certified Educational Program to ensure that rehab programs follow the same guidelines for professional golf expertise, Dr. Leist can conduct a fitness screening to identify injury or range of motion issues and establish a baseline to create an improvement plan. Specific workouts will be created to help improve your swing and overall golf performance. We work with kids, adults and golf pros.

You can verify Dr. Leist’s certification here and call today to set up a screening.

Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a movement screen conducted to prevent injuries. During a functional movement screening, asymmetries, that can cause functional movement deficiencies such as imbalance in mobility and stability, are identified. There are seven fundamental movement patterns that are evaluated.

At Prevail Rehab & Fitness, we are certified in YBT, FMS (a screening tool) and SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment diagnostic tool). We work closely with individuals and teams of athletes to screen, treat both from a fitness perspective but also from a rehabilitation perspective. If, after the screening, no pain is detected, we create training programs to help improve mobility and functional movement and prevent injury. If the screening presents areas of pain, we will create a rehab plan using various techniques appropriate to improve movement and reduce pain.
